Aromatic Rosemary


I am sure many of you would have heard of Rosemary and its ability to boost memory, improve mood, reduce inflammation, relieve pain, protect the immune system, stimulate circulation, detoxify the body, protect the body from bacterial infections, prevent premature aging, and heal skin conditions.

It is an all-rounder and quite often rosemary is incorporated into meat dishes to enhance the flavour. There is nothing like a sprig of rosemary added to a Sunday roast to give it a distinct enhancement of flavour, or to enhance soup, stews, The name Rosemary comes from two Latin words (ros + marinus) meaning ‘dew of the sea’. Rosemary has very strong antiseptic properties. It was commonly used in hospital settings in earlier times as a way to disinfect and purify the atmosphere. It is also a great preservative and may have been used in the past when people did not have the luxury of refrigerators where it was used to delay putrefaction of the meat. As an aroma, Rosemary is invaluable in respiratory conditions such as asthma, catarrh or sinusitis. It can also be used as a steam inhalation, working on a physical and mental level. With regard to skin care, it also has rejuvenating effects. It has been used in hair treatment, in particular, as a rinse for dark hair, and is overall of great benefit in restoring health to hair.

In relation to aromatherapy, Rosemary is distilled from the whole plant. It is a stimulating oil, which is warm and readily absorbed.
